Vitis AOC Valais

Back to 'Overview'

Owing to the slightly red colour of its grapes, the Gewürztraminer is also known as the Red Traminer. Its origins are not entirely clear, but it is likely to have come from Southeast Europe. It is named after Tramin in South Tyrol where the grape has been cultivated since the eleventh century. It is rather a rarity in Valais and is not usually pressed on its own.

Perfect pairings
Thanks to its typical, intensive aromas, this wine goes well with hearty dishes and mature cheeses (creamy hard cheeses, blue cheese, sheep's and goat's cheese).

Tasting notes
Glossy golden-yellow colour. The aroma features notes of rose and lychee. The wine is dry, but the full-bodied and rounded palate also lends it a touch of sweetness. The accentuated acidity, characteristic of this vintage, gives this wine a delightful freshness. Aromatic notes and exotic fruits are palpable on the palate, leaving you with a hint of almond and bitter orange.
